The Castle Garden Bazaar – Multifunctional events hall

(1013 Budapest, Ybl Miklós tér 2-6.)

The Castle Garden Bazaar (or Castle Bazaar) is located in the 1st district of Budapest, on Miklos Ybl square. It is a historic listed building, part of the World Heritage.

It was designed by the famous architect, Miklos Ybl and built between 1875 and 1883 in Neo-Renaissance style, as a closure to the Castle Garden, facing the Danube. Originally it had a commercial function, its arcades housed shops. In its northern wing there was the Buda Female industrial training shop from 1883 to 1888, and from 1890 to 1895 the Historical Portrait Gallery was to be seen here.  In  1884, Alajos Stróbl was the first sculptor who bought the first studio along the arcades of the Bazaar. He was followed by about eighty other artists in the next hundred years. In the building the Buda Juvenile Park operated from 1961 to 1980, housing several musical events.  In 1980, during a concert, the stone wall lining the stairs to the entrance of the park collapsed. Its state deteriorated continuously from the 1980s, leading to the total closure of the site. The adjacent flats were evacuated.

The event hall is accessible through the Bayed Pavilion, and due to its technical conditions is perfectly suitable to organise conferences, product demonstrations, gala dinners, fashion shows, exhibitions, balls, theatre and musical performances, or even family events or film shootings.

The event hall combines the originally Ybl-planned architectural elements with the state-of-the-art achievements of modern architecture. The antechamber of the hall is an exposed concrete box, one side of which reveals the original buttress, while the other wall is covered with enlarged pieces of the 1493  Hartmann Schedel Chronicle of the World, containing the first authentic depiction of the Buda Castle.  On both ends of the antechamber there are two buffet counters, lit by opaque light columns. The two turquoise coloured cloakrooms of the antechamber lead to the passage to three floor multi-storey car park.
The walls of the 900 sqm event hall  is covered by black coloured acoustic wainscot, containing tiny LED lights.
Useful area of the event hall: 900 sqm.
Useful area of the antechamber of the event hall: 880 sqm.
Height of the event hall: 6,38 sqm.
