Kiscelli Museum – Baroque romanticism
(1037 Budapest, Kiscelli st. 108.)
Within the museum, there is an event location with a very special atmosphere: the so called Church. We especially recommend it for key customer events, partner meetings, annual dinners and exclusive product presentations. The appearance of the Church is very special and determinate on its own, making it a perfect backdrop for events of unique concept.
Kiscelli Museum is one of the treasures not only of Óbuda but the whole of Budapest. The baroque style complex was build between 1745 and 1760 for the Trinitian monastery, settled by the Zichy family here in Óbuda. The architect of the monastery and its church was Johann Entzenhoffer from Vienna.
In this baroque style building complex, the one-storey outbuildings surround the higher monastery building with the sacristy and oratory. After its completion, the church became a popular destination among pilgrims. After the 1783 decree by Emperor Joseph II that dissolved the order, both the monastery and the church was given to the state. It stood empty at the end of the 19th century, when Miksa Schmidt, a furniture factory owner from Vienna bought it, and in his will left it to Budapest, with the condition that it must be used as a museum.
In the past 200 years there were a great number of exhibitions held in the museum, and in the recent years it has become a popular business event venue.
